Jason sat on the edge of the single bed at his parents’ home, letting out a slow breath as he looked around his small room. Only, it wasn’t really his room and never had been. It was his father’s study converted into a bedroom for Jason when he was discharged from rehab because his own bedroom was upstairs. He hadn’t really been in his own bedroom in years… not since before the accident. Back in Dillon and it was like nothing had changed, almost as if the small Texas town was immune to the changes of the rest of the world. He had been going to stay with Herc but when Jason told his parents he was returning to Dillon indefinitely, they had insisted he stay with them. He hadn’t had the heart to tell him that going back to that room that wasn’t his in the oppressive environment that was living with his parents again was the last thing he wanted. He felt like he was on a backward spiral with nothing to hold on to to stop the momentum.

( His eyes fell to his cell phone on the nightstand and his conversation with Tim and Sam at the diner came rushing back to him... )
