Tim was pretty convinced he had never, in his whole life, been in this much pain. Even thinking seemed to hurt, yet he somehow had to fathom a range of information people seemed to be attempting to feed him at regular intervals. Doctors, nurses, Coach, Mrs T, Billy, Mindy, Mindy's mom, more doctors, more nurses, a cleaner. It had been close to forty eight hours since Tim had woken up with what had to be the worst hangover of his life. It was all hazy now, and it felt to him like he kept drifting in and out a heavy sleep. He preferred being asleep, because the latter took a lot more effort than energy than he had right now. It was getting a little better, though. He was still in this hospital room connected to all these machines that beeped and whooshed and clicked. He still felt like extreme crap. But there was a tiny bit more clairty. He had meningitis explained to him in basic, non-doctor speak so he kinda got it now, he just didn't remember much surrounding it. He remembered the worst headache of his life, but little else.
( Now there was something else, unlike anything he had ever faced before, and he was terrified... )

SPOILERS FOR FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS SEASON 4 FINALE
The temptation to think that some higher power was trying to tell them something was strong. It was taking all of Jason's effort and energy, both of which he had very little left of, not to let his mind jump on that route and stick there. 'Disaster' couldn't even begin to describe what Jason and Taylor's intended wedding day had turned out to be. It had to go beyond the realms of disaster just for the sheer laughability of how much went wrong. At the end of the day, all they could do was write the day off and go to Plan B... if they even had a Plan B. One doesn't exactly anticipate needing something like a Plan B when you're trying to pull off the best day of your life.
( It all started on Friday... )

12.5. “Yeah? Well, that's a crock. It doesn't work that way. Look, do you realize how happy you were with her? That is, of course, when you weren't driving yourself crazy. Every day? Come on. Some people will never BE that happy. I'LL never be that happy. What am I talking to you for? You don't know anything.”

Tim wasn’t exactly sure what had just happened or even if he was supposed to know what had just happened. He chewed on the inside of the corner of his mouth and scratched the back of his head. “Ya’ alright, Six?” he asked.
Jason threw Tim a glare of annoyance. “Do I look alright to you? Huh? No, I’m not damn well alright but you can just fuck off back the hole you crawled out of because you’ve never been there to help me before. It’s too late to start now.” He shook his head, backing up in his chair and wheeling himself through to the kitchen.
Inevitably, Tim followed his best friend, unphased. He was worried, though. “Yeah, alright, I’ll give ya’ that but can’t I try again? I mean, ain’t anyone else here, is there? What happened? Is this somethin’ t’do with Mac? Oh hell, she ain’t broken up with ya’, has she?” he asked, frowning.
“No, but that doesn’t mean we’re going to stay together,” Jason muttered from the opened fridge, taking out a can of soda. He elbowed the door closed again and wheeled over to the sink to look for the little tool he used to open cans. “She’s pregnant.”
Tim’s mouth dropped open. “What? Like, with a kid?”
( Jason snorted and flicked the can open, tossing the tool back into the sink. “No, with a giant squid. Yes, with a fucking kid!” )

Jason didn’t even know what time it was, he just knew it was late. And dark. But it was late and dark and he had that funny shiver at the top of his spine he sometimes got when he needed the bathroom. It was never an urge like normal people got, just now and again he had an unexplainable sensation that he needed to go. It was always better to be safe than sorry, even if about eight times out of ten the sensation was inaccurate or he didn’t make it in time. Still, it was the first night Mac was spending with him in the new place and the last thing he wanted to do was pee all over her in bed. In fact, he had realised he was getting a complex about that. He hadn’t really shared his bed regularly with anyone since the accident and while he usually had really good control in that area, he was now as paranoid as all hell. One thing he couldn’t deny was that ‘good’ wasn’t ‘perfect’ and there were still times he found himself in embarrassing situations.
( So, it was late and it was dark and Jason decided a trip to the bathroom was vital... )

Jason parked himself beside Tim’s hospital bed and locked the brakes on his wheelchair. He could feel Tim watching him but hadn’t made eye contact yet. When he finally did, there was a slight moment of awkwardness where he pulled his lips to the side and cleared his throat. But he soon just laughed and shook his head. “Fuck,” he commented and scratched his temple.
“Ya’ know, it’s almost like ya’ just came in here wavin’ a little warnin’ flag with ‘Caution: D an’ M in progress’ on it,” Tim drawled, his eyes still heavy from the lethargy of dealing with the illness. “S said ya’ were wantin’ t’talk. I… think ya’ kinda right.”
( Jason nodded. He sat forward and rested his elbows on the edge of Tim’s mattress... )

Jason's tattoo - the smaller of the two being done - was over a little before Sam's. He wasn't sure how Sam actually got through it because from the moment Tim face-planted the floor abruptly, she had been jumpy and Snake had to keep telling her to get the ants out of her pants. Jason's arm was aching now and he was more than glad it was over, the tattoo now neatly dressed and covered by the sleeve of his t-shirt. Sam was nearly done, so Jason wheeled himself out of the tattoo parlour to the sidewalk where he found Tim sitting on the ground near the door with his head in his hands.
Jason couldn't help but smirk a little. "How are you ever gonna get through somethin' like the birth of your kid?" he asked in amusement. He hadn't actually had any prior knowledge that Tim had a needle phobia. He knew he had a thing about hospitals but never would assume it was because of sharp pointy things. Both he and Sam had been stuck in the chairs mid-tattoo when Tim too the dive and neither could jump to his aid immediately without ending up with said needles someone uncomfortable. The parlour's receptionist had helped Tim come to and had taken him well out of sight of the proceedings. Neither Jason nor Sam had seen him since.

LINK: Sam couldn't have really asked for a better 18th birthday. She was pretty sure that most would just throw a huge party, but she didn't really care about that crap. Especially since J and Mac had really only patched things up. She grabbed up more beers out of the fridge and came back out into the living room. Her folks had given her the house for the night, and she tried not to think too hard about what they were getting up to in the hotel they were staying in. Sam handed beers to J and Mac before she brought one over to Tim and settled herself on his lap.
Pizza boxes were stacked on the coffee table along with other empty bottles--not all beer--and chip packets. Sam kissed Tim on the cheek and smiled happily. "I feel like we're supposed to be playin' games, or somethin'. Is this what adult birthdays are like? Just sittin' around and bein' all mature and talkative?" she asked as she looked at Mac and J. "C'mon, there has t'be some game we can play at our age."

Jason had been surprised they even managed to pull the 'double date' off. Actually, the thing he had been surprised about was that Tim agreed to come, but it probably helped that the word 'date' hadn't even come into the equation. Burgers and milkshakes with maybe a movie afterwards. The atmosphere had been a little awkward at first because Tim was still emitting a slight air of irritation aimed in Jason and Sam's direction, but once beer was on the menu, he finally started to loosen up.
Then there was the fact that Jason and Taylor had shared quite a lengthy and intense kiss the afternoon before and neither had mentioned it since, let alone told Tim or Sam about it. It wasn't that there was awkwardness there, just an uncertainty and Jason was struggling to actually hide the fact there was chemistry bubbling between him and Taylor. He reached for the salt shaker at the same time she did and their hands connected, causing them both to freeze. He quickly released his hold on the shaker with a smile, letting her take it and moving back on to hastily shove a fry in his mouth.

Tim sat slumped down in the armchair with his legs sprawled out in front of him. He took a long, smooth swallow of beer from the bottle and flicked the cap in Jason’s general direction. “What happened between you an’ purple panties, Six? She came all the way t’Dillon and looked after your hungover cripple ass. Was that the passion killer, dude?” he asked, an eyebrow quirked in question.
( Jason was sitting sideways on his parent’s sofa with his legs spread out across the length of the other cushions. He batted the bottle cap away with the back of his hand before it hit him in the chest and watched it bounce off the coffee table and fall out of sight... )

They had about seven hours to go before they arrived in Dillon. Jason had wanted to keep going so the trip could end but Tim threatened to pull over and get drunk if they didn't stop for something to eat. That was the reason they were in yet another diner eating yet more sub-standard food. Or, at least, Jason was pretending to eat. Since the burger at the last diner had giving him a stomach ache, he was reluctant to put anything else in his mouth. Fork curled expertly, yet strangely, around his thumb and pinkie finger, he had arranged his fries in a pretty wreath shape around the edge of his plate and burger in the middle had been picked apart and resembled a train smash in centre of the fries ring.
He leaned forward and took a sip of this drink, biting the end of the straw as was a habit he'd always had. He looked pointedly at his watch and then up to Tim who was trying to cop a perve of one of the waitress' ass across the diner. Jason caught Sam's eyes with a roll of his own, a diatribe of 'Are we there yet' barely being held back from the end of his tongue.

By Tim Riggins [

LINK: Tim took a slow swig from his beer and watched a bug crawl across the picnic bench towards his foot. It was Sam’s turn to drive next, so Tim was making the most of his break. It had been an abrupt stop this time. Jason having what seemed to be an attack of aggravated claustrophobia at being stuck in the truck for so long. It had been during another one of his silent periods, so it was enough for Tim to know his friend had been stewing internally again over everything. He stopped in a rest area with some picnic tables and a bathroom, at least. May as well kill two birds with one stone.
By Jazz Stanton [

LINK: JC bit her lip as she shifted restlessly in the Starbucks queue. Her eyes flicked unseeingly up to the menu as she tried her hardest to wait patiently for what she hoped wasn’t yet another sub-par Latte. She couldn’t think straight and she hated not being able to think straight. It meant she had an issue without a solution and she hated not having a solution.

Jason knew the sound of that truck anywhere, yet he didn't move from where he had taken residence in his bed with the covers over his head. Luckily the front door was unlocked. They could either figure out to come in themselves or stand out there until he was ready to get the door... probably in, say, a decade. His chair was parked messily beside the bed from where he had vacated it as quickly as he possibly could. He didn't even know how long he had been lying there now. He didn't care, either. Everything hurt. Physically, mentally and emotionally. Even through the accident, through Lyla cheating on him with Tim, through accepting he couldn't walk... nothing hurt as much as it did to hear Erin say those devastating words. He didn't care about anything anymore. Everything he had been hoping for was gone. And that was before he even let himself stop to think that this probably meant he was unable to have kids, full stop.
