It was the early hours of the morning by the time Jason made it to Austin. He received Taylor's voicemail messages as soon as he got back to West Dillon after hearing Coach talk about plans he wanted to set into play with the Lions. Jason was really just doing him a favour listening, he didn't really need to offer any input. Coach had it all in hand, like he always did. He suspected the whole invition by Coach was just a veiled excuse to get Jason to Dillon, maybe try and get him involved in the football scene again. Obviously Jason's folks had been talking to Coach and Mrs Taylor, like folks did. The news about Taylor's pregnancy wasn't a secret anymore, and there was still the fact that Jason and Taylor hadn't managed to get hitched. Coach obviously though along the way that Jason could use some distraction from Austin... and he'd been right. Jason took the chance to get out of the house for a little while, to visit Dillon and his folks. He had only planned to be gone overnight, but he didn't even make that. As soon as he was back in the now West Dillon, his phone reception increased and Taylor's messages came through simultaneously.

A few frantic phone calls later, trying to wrap his head around the surreal notion that Tim had been carted off in an ambulance with high fever, among other things, Jason found himself a passenger in his truck, driving back to Austin with Coach Taylor at the wheel and behind them, Billy and Mindy in their own truck with the baby... )

6.13. "Communication. It's the first thing we really learn in life. Funny thing is, once we grow up, learn our words and really start talking, the harder it becomes to know what to say. Or how to ask for what we really need."

When Taylor slammed the front door behind her as she arrived home that evening, she didn't intend to slam it so hard, but man it felt satisfying. After trying for close to two weeks to get a moment alone with Jason when she wasn't at work, trying to get ready for work, or exhausted after a hard day at work, she had reached breaking point. She was fed up with Tim Riggins monopolising his time. She was fed up with beer and football, even if she had grown up with it surrounding her. And she was fed up the pair of them being so idle they probably had Homer Simpson butt dents on the sofa for the amount of time they spent there. She didn't stop to kick her shoes off at the door like she did most other nights after work, she just proceeded to stalk into the living room where - expectedly - she found Tim and Jason planted in front of the sofa with some beer, peanuts, and football reruns on the TV. They were in the middle of cheering for a touchdown by a team Taylor didn't even damn well recognise, so she stepped up and smacked her hand against the power button and shut the TV off. She spun around, hands on her hips as she stood there still in her cop uniform and just glared at them, almost as if she was challenging them to turn it back on with the remote. Both men just stared back at her, blinking as if they had just been sucked into a vortex of insanity. Tim was the one who decided to try to pipe up first, but before any words of protest could even come out of his mouth, she snatched the remote control out of his hand and gave him a small smack in the head with it. "Do not even say a word, Riggins," she warned through gritted teeth.

She started to pace back and forth between them, taking in the sight and then snorting in aggravation... )

Thank fuck it wasn't asparagus.

You Are Chocolate

You make people feel euphoric and dreamy. You're very addicting.

You definitely drive people to passion, lust, and even obsession.

While you are quite sensual, you are also comforting.

You sure know how to work your magic. It doesn't take long to get someone to love you.

Taylor was just setting her laptop aside on the nightstand when Jason started to stir beside her. When she had woken up earlier, she found him hugged up against her asleep again, even if she had been aware he had been up and out of the bed at some point. She had just been too tired to really realise when or where he went. He couldn't have been gone that long, and she was relieved to find him back in bed with her when she crawled her way back to sleep consciousness. After that, she couldn't sleep herself, so she took a quick trip to the bathroom and then came back to bed, settling in with her laptop and striking up a conversation with Matt online, even if he was only a couple of doors away up the hall. She was feeling a little better herself, her stomach not churning so horribly and all the other symptoms seemed to have settled right down. She was just tired now, and more than a little crushed their wedding had to be cancelled.

She slipped her fingers into Jason's messy hair, brushing it back off his face as she looked down at him, watching him wake slowly... )

SPOILERS FOR FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS SEASON 4 FINALE

The temptation to think that some higher power was trying to tell them something was strong. It was taking all of Jason's effort and energy, both of which he had very little left of, not to let his mind jump on that route and stick there. 'Disaster' couldn't even begin to describe what Jason and Taylor's intended wedding day had turned out to be. It had to go beyond the realms of disaster just for the sheer laughability of how much went wrong. At the end of the day, all they could do was write the day off and go to Plan B... if they even had a Plan B. One doesn't exactly anticipate needing something like a Plan B when you're trying to pull off the best day of your life.

It all started on Friday... )

The Christmas dinner was all said and done, and although it probably wasn't gourmet chef standard, it tasted pretty nice and there was plenty of it, so there were definitely no complaints. After all the tension of the previous week, everything had settled down for them all the enjoy an awesome Christmas Day together with lots of presents and laughing. It was the evening now, and things had settled down, with the living room becoming the epicentre of the celebrations, but people milling around, talking, eating, drinking as they please.

Jason had gotten Taylor a Pandora charm bracelet and earrings for Christmas, while she got him a leather jacket and new wallet in return. She had been delighted with the jewellery, and it was the only jewellery on Jason's mind until Saracen had cornered him quietly in the kitchen earlier and handed him back the small brown paper package that contained Taylor's engagement ring. The ring Jason had threw across the Panthers stadium in a fit of distraught anger and that apparently Tim picked up for him after it. Held onto it all this time. Jason was stunned, and confused what he should do at first. It wasn't Matt's fault, but Jason's ex-QB successor just stood there and took it while Jason got a bit hot under the collar about being confrontated with something so touchy. Jason soon apologised though, realising it had just been a shock for him and he wasn't actually sure what he was supposed to do with the ring now. It had been on his mind ever since, and he was sitting by the sofa lost in his thoughts as he played with the ring on his beer can, the ring once again at the forefront of his mind as he contemplated the situation then, and the situation now.
